This page explains how CookGearLab evaluates and scores kitchen gear, and what our AI Score does and does not mean.
1. Our Review Process
We research each product using manufacturer specifications, official product documentation, and publicly available, verified customer feedback. We compare products within a category against a consistent set of criteria rather than reviewing each item in isolation. Where we have not personally used a product, we describe it based on documented specifications and verified user feedback rather than claiming firsthand testing.
2. What We Evaluate
Depending on the product category, we assess products against criteria such as:
- Performance and effectiveness: how well the product does its core job, based on specifications and verified user feedback.
- Build quality and durability: materials, construction, and reported longevity.
- Value for money: what the product offers relative to its price and to comparable alternatives.
- Ease of use and maintenance: setup, everyday use, cleaning, and upkeep.
- Safety and certifications: relevant safety standards and certifications (such as UL or CPSC, where applicable), especially for electric and gas-powered products.
3. The AI Score Explained
The AI Score shown on our product cards is a 0 to 10 score calculated from the criteria above, weighted as follows:
- Performance and effectiveness: 35%
- Build quality and durability: 20%
- Value for money: 20%
- Ease of use and maintenance: 15%
- Safety and certifications: 10%
Every product within the same article is scored against the same criteria and weighting. The AI Score is our own editorial scoring system: it is not paid for or influenced by manufacturers, sellers, or affiliate partners, and it does not affect how much commission we may earn from a purchase.
4. Pros, Cons, and Who Shouldn’t Buy
Every product we cover gets a balanced pros and cons list. Where relevant, we also call out who a product is not a good fit for, such as households that need a larger capacity or a lower price point. An article made up entirely of positives is not a review.
5. Our Sources
We rely on manufacturer specifications and official product listings, and publicly available, verified customer feedback. We do not fabricate specifications, measurements, award claims, or expert quotes. Where accurate information is not available, we say so or leave the item out rather than guess.
6. Updates and Accuracy
Prices and availability change frequently, so we do not hardcode prices into article text. We revisit our roundups periodically to update them as products are discontinued or replaced. If you spot outdated or inaccurate information, contact us at [email protected].
